Two men, who were convicted of possessing and dealing in drugs, have been sentenced to life in jail. The Federal Supreme Court in Abu Dhabi upheld an earlier ruling by a lower court that handed down the sentences to the Asian men after they were found guilty of peddling narcotics and tramadol.
Court documents stated that the anti-narcotics department arrested five men for selling the narcotics to different people in the country.
Prosecutors said an undercover agent disguised as a customer and contacted one of the drug dealers.
The man went with his colleague to sell the narcotics to the police officer and were arrested red-handed. They then led the police to the rest of the defendants.
The police recovered a huge amount of tramadol and other drugs from their residence in a northern emirate.
The Federal Court of First Instance had earlier sentenced the two main defendants in the case to death. The other three were jailed for two years and fined Dh10,000.
The men challenged the ruling at the appellate court, which commuted it to life in jail.
