According to prosecution records, the men, both Emiratis and engineers, aged 25 and 26 and identified as A.I. and A.S., kidnapped the student, who is from Comoros Islands, after one of them met with her to show her a car as per a prior agreement.

However, once in the car of one of them, she was kidnapped into a desert location near Al Aweer and they allegedly molested her and A.I. filmed his accomplice with his mobile phone camera as he was assaulting the student. They faced kidnap and molestation charges in the Court of First Instance.

The student said that she met A.I. in a social networking website about nine months before the incident which happened in March. On that day, he asked to see her to lend her a car for her own use.

He picked her up about 7pm from Al Buhaira in Sharjah and drove to Al Aweer. There, he told her to ride with his friend A.S. in his tinted SUV so that she would not be noticed. He claimed that he would bring ‘her car’ from his place.

She rode with A.S. until his car’s tyres got stuck in the desert dunes. A.S. called A.I. who arrived soon and the student rode with him. She was crying to return her home. But he drove further in the desert.

A.I. forced himself on her after taking her mobile phones. A.S. also allegedly forced himself on her and A.I. filmed it on his mobile phone. They ignored her as she cried begging not to be filmed.

On the way back, she seized the chance to step off the car when he stopped at a tyre shop. She sought the help of men outside the shop to call the police.

During the interrogations, she said that she could not resist the men who were physically well-built. She could not run away from A.S. first because it was dark and she was scared. She said that A.I. threatened that he would not take her out of the desert until she did as he pleased. She denied that she rode in A.I.’s car prior to the incident or that he had ever talked about sex with her before.

A police captain said during the investigation that he just had dinner with friends at a restaurant in Al Aweer residential area when he spotted the complainant crying and saying that she was kidnapped and raped. He informed the police Operation Room.

A worker at the tyre shop said he saw the woman stepping off a four-wheel drive and running for help towards a group of men standing in front of the shop.

According to the report of the General Department of Criminal Evidence, the DNA of the semen sample taken from the student matched with the defendants’.
