Transit passenger caught with 7kg cocaine on trial

A 43-year-old Turkish man allegedly transported 7.1kg of cocaine hidden in a plastic wrapper containing coffee powder as he was transiting through Dubai International Airport, the Court of First Instance heard on Wednesday.

The defendant was arrested from Terminal 3 of the airport a in May. He was coming from Sao Paolo and heading to Syria.

According to the prosecution records, the drugs were in 12 plastic rolls in the defendants’ baggage. The cocaine was hidden and wrapped by an external cover containing coffee powder.

A police sergeant said the defendant raised a corporal’s suspicion while he was waiting at the transit hall at the airport. He looked nervous and scared.

The automatic scanning of the defendant’s baggage showed that there was an unusual density in the bottom. The officers searched his baggage and the cocaine was found.

He was taken to the anti-narcotics office and there they found 12 pieces of cocaine wrapped in transparent white plastic bags containing coffee powder in the outer layer and the cocaine in the inner layer.

The bags were hidden carefully in the bottom but they added to the weight of the baggage.According to the Criminal Lab report, the cocaine seized from the defendant weighed 7.1kg.
