Two warehouse keepers, aged 47 and 30, stood trial in the Court of First Instance, accused of stealing more than Dh1.5 million worth of material from their workplace. A runaway suspect has been charged in absentia.
The three men, all Indians, are accused of breach of trust and embezzlement.
The complaint was filed at the Bur Dubai police station.
An Indian PRO for the factory (of mechanical systems), where the defendants used to work, said during the investigation that the accused abused the powers they had been given at work, starting 2012 and up to the first months of 2016. "We found out about their embezzlement of money and confronted them with it.
They confessed and signed a written statement," the 44-year-old PRO said.
An Indian accountant at the factory said that by reviewing the production and comparing it to the revenues, they found a huge discrepancy between the manufactured material and the expected revenues. They then discovered the embezzlements.
The main accused, an assistant manager who is at large, was summoned for internal investigation by the administration.
"He confessed that he embezzled large amounts of money from the factory with the other two men. They did not put in some aluminium material, which had been manufactured in the records, but rather smuggled it out, sold it and took the money which totaled Dh1,532,558.
The criminal evidence included an audit and accounting report, which showed that the three men on trial expropriated material worth Dh1,532,558.
In a written acknowledgement, one of the accused confessed that he owed his former workplace Dh500,000 worth of aluminium material sales not put on records. Two other statements show the two other men admit to being involved in the illegal activities.
The court adjourned the hearing to November 7.
