Three arrested in drug cases

The Dubai Police have arrested three persons allegedly for possessing and distributing drugs in three separate incidents.

Two of the suspects had resisted arrest and one of them attacked police personnel while trying to evade arrest.

Major-General Abdul Jalil Mahdi, Director of the General Department of Anti-Narcotics of the Dubai Police, said that the department officials received information in mid-October that a 24-year-old Emirati, identified as A.M. who works as a manager in a private company, was possessing and distributing drugs to Emirati youths and use them himself.

The police spotted the suspect at a public place in Mirdif area and stopped him after he got inside his car. The police officials told him that they wanted to search his car. But the suspect refused to open the doors and closed the car windows. Then he reversed the car and tried to hit the police vehicle. He even endangered the life of a police officer by trying to hit him. However, the police team managed to stop him before he fled the scene. The police took him out of his car, even though he continued to resist the police fiercely.

The police found a plastic bag containing Spice, a drug banned in the UAE, in his pocket. Test results showed that the suspect was using hashish and Spice, said Major-General Mahdi, adding that the suspect was referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution on charges of drug possession and use and endangering the life of police officials.

In the second incident, which also occurred in October, the anti-narcotics team received information that an Asian was possessing and promoting drugs. On raiding his flat in Al Manama area in Dubai the police seized 4,260 tramadol pills.

Major-General Abdul Jalil said that the police learnt that the suspect was targeting youths to distribute drugs during Eid Al Adha. The 32-year-old suspect was working as a driver in a government department in Dubai.

During the police interrogation, he claimed that the tablets belonged to one of his friends the friend asked him to keep it. The police referred the suspect to the Dubai Public Prosecution on charges of drug possession.

Major-General Abdul Jalil said that a 31-year-old man, identified as Y.Sh., fought with the police while resisting his arrest. He said that the police had received information that the suspect was promoting drug, so they set a trap to arrest him red-handed.

He was arrested while selling Kemadrin drug to an undercover police officer in the Mohaisna area. He said that he resisted the arrest and tried to escape, but the police managed to overpower him and seize the drugs in his possession. He was later referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution.

Abdul Jalil called on parents to take care of their children through establishing good family environment, stressing that family dialogue protects children from seeking friendship of strangers who may exploit their conditions and lead them to the drug world.
