Technician gets 6 months jail for molesting maid

A 28-year-old Indian man who fondled a maid at her sponsor’s villa, was sentenced to six months in jail on Wednesday, despite the charges being dropped against him.

The Court of First Instance ordered that the male, an air conditioning technician, be deported after serving his sentence.

The maid, a 21-year-old Filipina, alleged in the Public Prosecution investigation that the incident happened one morning in August.

While working at the villa, the accused asked the maid for a glass of water. He then proceeded to follow her to the kitchen where he fondled her. The shocked maid yelled at the accused and when he realised she was angry, he apologised.

The maid, who was carrying her sponsor’s baby at the time, immediately telephoned her sponsor and asked that he return to the villa. Upon arrival, he reported the incident to the police.

During investigation, the accused admitted to the molestation charge, but then denied the charge in court, alleging it happened by mistake. He later admitted to touching the woman, after accusation against him was dropped. The verdict remains subject to appeal within 15 days at the Court of Appeal.— mary@khaleejtimes.com
