Tailor cleared of groping woman

A 37-year-old tailor has been cleared by the Court of First Instance of the charge of groping a woman who was trying a skirt on in his shop’s fitting room.

He denied the molestation charge before the court earlier.

The Indian, who was accused of molesting the 25-year-old Filipina maid, 25, as he allegedly barged into the small room while the woman was trying a uniform skirt on. He allegedly groped her when she was only in her underwear.

The woman said during investigation that she had to go to the defendant’s shop as he was their company’s contractual tailor. It was around 5.30pm on a day in June. She claimed that she was in her underwear trying on the skirts he was giving her when he entered suddenly the room and asked whether she was done. She yelled at him to go out but he told her that his duty was about to finish. He gave her another skirt to try on and suddenly groped her.He said he was sorry when she got upset. She reported the incident the following day at the Jebel Ali police station.

A Filipina tailor, 30, said she saw the accused walking out of the fitting room that day. Soon after, the complainant also came out saying that the skirt fit her.

But the following day, she met her in a hotel’s restaurant where she worked and learnt from her that the accused had fondled and groped her as she was trying on the uniform. The complainant told her that she would inform the Human Resources Department.
