The Sharjah Police arrested the pair on Wednesday after they were notified of the scam. The duo was operating from the industrial area of the emirate by offering their services to local businessmen.

The police identified the location and caught them red-handed. At the time of the raid, the two men had successfully convinced a resident that they had doubled five American dollar notes. The victim then agreed come back with a bigger amount.

A subsequent police raid found that the men had in their possession a large quantity of paper and other material to convince people of the scam. The two claimed they had a magic potion that helped double the money. The ‘potion’ was in fact a cleaning liquid. During interrogation, the conmen admitted that had asked their victims to pay Dh10,000 to buy the liquid necessary to complete the process. When they received the cash, they would run away, leaving the victims with some black paper which they claimed would turn into dollars.

The men have confessed to their crimes and the case has been referred to the public prosecution. During investigation, the police also discovered that the two swindlers had entered the country illegally.

Police said many had fallen prey to their tactics. They have called up on the public to be on guard and not fall prey to the promises of such people. — news@khaleejtimes.com
