A security guard of a residential building has been charged at the Dubai Court of First Instance with sexual harassment after he allegedly molested a female resident at a late hour, while threatening to kill her.
Public prosecution records show that the 37-year-old Pakistani man followed the Filipina complainant when he spotted her walking home.
He pulled her towards him, hugged and touched her inappropriately.
He denied the charge in court.
The incident that took place on August 24 was reported at Jebel Ali police station.
The complainant, a 38-year-old housemaid, said that she walked home back from a nearby supermarket to her place at 11:30pm. "The guard opened the gate for me. He followed me to the lift and offered to help me with the bags I was carrying. But I thanked him."
The defendant stayed in the lift with her until she reached the fourth floor. "He then told me to go with him. And as I kept walking, he pulled me closer to him and hugged me in a way to stop me from moving. He even tried to take my pants down while he threatened repeatedly to kill me," she told the prosecutor.
He would not leave her even after she screamed.
The man did not move away from her for a while. She later broke loose from him and ran to her place.
The defendant admitted to the charge to the police and during public prosecution investigation.
His own semen traces were detected on his clothes, a report from the general directorate of criminal evidence and criminology showed.
The man was apprehended on August 28 and remains in detention.
The court will hand down a ruling on December 24.
