Dubai — A 44-year-old manager was charged for allegedly raping a masseuse after making her unconscious by covering her face with a towel. The Syrian defendant, identified as M.I., has been charged with rape with the use of force in the Court of First Instance on Wednesday.
The incident was reported on October 7, 2013.
The masseuse, 33, from Burma, said in the prosecution investigation that the defendant arrived at the massage centre after booking an appointment.
After he changed his clothes, she started massaging his back and feet, she said. “He told me to stop for a while as he wanted to bring something from the locker room. I did not see what he had brought.”
She continued massaging his feet. “He then asked me to bring a towel. I asked him why he wanted it, but he ignored the question and repeated his request.”
She gave him the towel and was “taken by surprise” as he allegedly covered her face with it. She lost consciousness for about half an hour.
When she woke up she found the defendant fully dressed and she felt severe pain. “I asked him what he did to make me lose consciousness and he said he was done. I did not understand what he meant.”
She said she was taken by surprise again as he put Dh1,000 in her hand telling her to buy some medicines.
He left the place after that. She realised the defendant had raped her after she saw blood on her undergarments, she said. She reported the incident to the centre’s administration and she was taken to the Bur Dubai police station, where she filed a rape complaint.
The complainant’s friend, a 32-year-old Burmese, confirmed in the investigation that her friend recounted to her that a customer raped her.
The Criminal Evidence report showed that the defendant’s semen traces were found on the complainant’s person.
Psychological tests showed that M.I. gave contradictory statements during the investigation.
A verdict will be pronounced on May 13.
