A businessman, who allegedly tricked a 15-year-old girl to travel to the UAE and then forced her into prostitution, has been charged with human trafficking.
The 36-year-old Bangladeshi businessman is also accused at the Dubai Court of First Instance of raping the teen girl after spiking her drink with alcohol at a nightclub.
According to public prosecution records, the defendant, together with a female accomplice who is at large, took advantage of the young age of the victim and her desperate need for money to lure her with a job offer.
However, right after she arrived at Abu Dhabi airport, they took her into their flat in Dubai, where they assaulted and threatened her. They forced the girl to work at massage centres and offer massage to men with other illicit activities.
The victim recounted how she arrived at the airport and was received by a Bangladeshi man.
"I stayed with my aunt for about five months, during which she told me to work in a massage parlour for a Chinese woman. There, I was asked to do extra sexual favours for men for an additional Dh50 but I did not take up the job offer."
She told the prosecutor how she then met the accused through her aunt. He took her out to a nightclub after buying her a new mobile phone. "After I had a drink offered by him, I felt dizzy. I woke up later only to find myself in his bedroom with blood covering me. He then took me to a massage centre where prostitution was practiced. But I did not work there."
After her aunt was jailed in a flesh trade case, the girl did not have any other choice but to work at the massage centres in the hope that she could send some money back home. She had paid sex with men few times but the accused would always collect the money. Only after imploring him, he gave her Dh200 to send it to her younger sister for treatment.
During investigation, the girl recalled how the accused beat her up and broke her phone to force her into sex with men. "He threatened to deny me food, drink and any money. His friend also threatened to cut me with a knife."
A woman at a massage centre helped the victim get a cab and seek police help.
A police lieutenant said the victim lodged a complaint at Al Qusais police station. "We heard her account of what happened. A forensic report put her age at 15. She was then placed at the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children."
The defendant was arrested shortly later in Al Nahda and he admitted to the charges.
He remains in detention pending the trial while the public prosecution is seeking the strictest legal penalty against him.
The defendant's mobile phone, which was seized, contained many WhatsApp conversations proving his involvement in exploiting girls in the flesh trade.
The trial will continue on March 19.
