The trial of the 45-year-old Pakistani began in the Court of First Instance on Monday.

A customs officer in the Jebel Ali Port testified during investigation that he was on duty when he was approached by anti-narcotics officers of the Dubai Police. “They had a prosecution warrant to search two containers. One was found to contain food, medicines and two big cartons of Tramadol,” he said.

The shipment was found to be owned by the defendant, and he had wanted to pass it through the inspection point without finalising the clearance procedures and filling the declaration forms.

He claimed that he was planning to re-export the shipment including the medicines and Tramadol to Malaysia.
