He claimed that he had parked his car near his house before he went on leave to his home country. Mawaqif had not enforced paid parking in the area that time. He said his car was moved to another paid parking space because of some digging works executed by Mawaqif and Mawaqif inspectors issued a fine ticket for parking violation everyday until the total fines piled up to Dh23,500. He pleaded with the court to order Mawaqif to drop the fines or reduce the fine amount.

A lawyer representing Mawaqif told the court that the plaintiff very well knew that the area where he parked his car before leaving the country was under paid parking. The lawyer presented evidence showing that the department had fined the plaintiff for parking offences in the same area before his travel and he had paid the fines.

The court ruled that the documents presented by Mawaqif confiirmed that the plaintiff was well aware that the area was under paid parking and that his claims were unfounded. news@khaleejtimes.com
