A worker stood trial on Monday accused of intentionally touching two women inappropriately on a Dubai bus.
According to prosecution records, the 28-year-old Bangladeshi man groped one woman and inappropriately touched another after boarding a bus in Al Jafliyah on August 2.
In the Court of First Instance, he denied the charges, claiming it happened by mistake and with just one woman.
One of the two women, a 37-year-old Filipina clerk, said the first time the accused touched her was at the bus stop.
"It was around 6:45pm while waiting at Al Jafliyah bus stop. I felt him touching me so I stared at him angrily without talking to him. He touched me again after boarding the bus. A man told me to just walk away from him after seeing me screaming at him."
The complainant heard shortly later another woman yelling at the same man and pushing him after he touched her.
"I then saw him getting down on his knees and saying he was sorry. That woman then told the driver to call the police," the first woman said.
When the bus reached a stop in Al Satwa, a Roads and Transport employee came and asked for the man's ID. The latter gave it to him before disappearing. An Egyptian supervisor said he was informed about a problem on a bus.
"I went to the scene and had a talk with the driver. I then spoke with two women who both complained that the man had touched them".
The 32-year-old supervisor then brought the accused to his office. But right after he was confronted with what the women were claiming, the defendant ran away.
He was later apprehended by the police.
During the interrogation, he admitted to touching both women, claiming it was accidental.
