Maid gets six-month jail for theft
The Fujairah Court of Appeal has ordered a housemaid to be jailed for six months followed by deportation for stealing cash and personal items from her employer.
The court upheld a lower court’s judgment in the case, according to which the maid stole Dh3,000, bank cards, cell phone and an expensive watch from her Emirati woman sponsor’s car.
It was in September that the Emirati woman filed a complaint that her mobile phone and purse was stolen. Three days before she noticed it, the Emirati woman had asked the maid to fetch her belongings from her car. The maid was also missing, she told the police.
The police tracked down the suspect, who was reportedly staying with a friend. During interrogation, the maid claimed that she had committed the crime in revenge.
