A maid was sentenced to three months in jail followed by deportation and fined Dh5,000 for using witchcraft against her sponsor.
The GCC national man had been having his tea when he smelled and tasted something foul in the drink. After checking the tea leaves, he saw they had runes and strange writing on them. 
He immediately understood that the maid had steeped the tea in some kind of witchcraft meant to harm his family.
The man reported the incident to the police, who searched the premises and the maid's quarters. They found several items pertaining to witchcraft that amongst her things. 
She was arrested and handed over to the authorities.
The maid protested at the appeals hearing that she had those items for her personal use only. She requested they reduce her prison term and fine.
