Brigadier Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation, confirmed an Emirati woman found the baby near one of the doors of the Global Village centre. The police believe the child was abandoned as there are no missing persons reports fitting her description.

The baby, who was discovered at around 7pm crying hysterically in her stroller, had been carefully covered by a blanket. The woman, who was with a friend at the time, tried to find the family of the baby but to no avail. She later handed over the child to Al Ameen service of the Dubai Police located at the Global Village.

Special CID teams who are on 24-hour duty at the Global Village took the baby — allegedly been left for over an hour — to the hospital for a check-up. Police officers at the Global Village broadcast the child’s description throughout the centre until the closing time, but nobody came forward as her guardian.

Al Mansouri said the baby has Asian features. He said the police have taken her fingerprints and DNA and have circulated her description across the UAE.
