A second accused, a compatriot, was handed four years in jail, also to be followed by deportation, after he was found guilty of using narcotics. The court acquitted the pair of the charge of trafficking heroin. The case is being heard in three separate courts because of the multiplicity of jurisdictions, as the crime had been committed by four accused in different emirates.

According to court records, the case goes back to when the Dubai Police spotted a number of heroin capsules hidden in the intestines of an Asian man.

Upon questioning, the man admitted that he was to hand them over to the first accused at the latter’s house at the Tourist Club area in Abu Dhabi.

The apartment was searched and a suitcase was found. Two rollers containing 85 and 97 heroin capsules were recovered.

The first perpetrator confessed that his accomplice had given him the said bag ten days before being arrested to keep the bag with him as he was under suspicion by the police. The second accused arrived at a deal with his partner that he would waive an amount of Dh750 the first accused had owed the second in return for keeping the bag safely.

The police arrested the second accused who admitted to consuming hashish. He received a phone call from his homeland saying he would receive another quantity of heroin from a fourth person in Sharjah.

The latter was apprehended and the case has been referred to the Sharjah Public Prosecution.
