The total number of crimes in Ajman dropped from 7,561 in 2015 to 7,432 in 2016, according to statistics released by the police.
The force has introduced new 30 security patrols called 'Aman' to ensure safety in residential neighbourhoods, commercial and industrial areas. Sixty police officers have been deployed for these new patrols.
Major General Sheikh Sultan bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of Ajman Police, said: "Crime indicators have dropped, along with serious and disturbing crimes. The police recorded 601 disturbing crimes in 2016, compared to 681 in 2015." He attributed the decline to the number of security programmes implemented by the Ministry of Interior.
The intensification of police patrols and increased security awareness programmes, along with a focus on the issues that pose a threat to security work, and more human cadres working in the police, contributed to the strengthening of security, despite the emirate's increasing population.
Maj Gen Al Nuaimi revealed that the Ajman Police "announced the appointment of 60 new police officers during the current year, to work in 30 new security patrol which will be deployed in residential neighbourhoods, commercial and industrial areas, 24/7."
The force members will also attend specialised training courses to combat crime, learn about preservation of the crime scene etc.
The strategic goal of the Ministry of Interior is to reduce the proportion of crimes and harness modern technologies to increase the quality of police work and keep pace with developments in various crimes.
The Ajman Police introduced a control unit and a new tracking unit at the General Department of Criminal Investigation, including systems and software characterised by speed and accuracy in collecting information - to organise and speed up the process of gathering information and data, classification and e-archiving purposes.
