The 24-year-old Omani policeman was charged with using and possessing narcotics in the Court of First Instance.
A lieutenant at the Transportation Security Department of the Dubai Police told the Prosecution that they received a complaint from an Indian in October last year that he was beaten up and robbed of Dh800 at Al Ittihad Square metro station near Al Ghurair Centre. The complainant said the one who beat him up and stole from him was a policeman stationed there.
Two policemen who work at that metro station denied knowing the complainant while the accused alleged that he had stopped the complainant after he raised his suspicions, and then let him go. However, when he was summoned later for questioning at the Bur Dubai Police Station, the accused said he gave the complainant a light beating to scare him and took Dh800 from him.
The lieutenant added that the accused did not look normal and that he was very pensive and distracted. The lieutenant then ordered him to take his uniform hat off and empty his pockets.
The accused took out three types of pills and drugs from his pockets and he admitted that he had been addicted to heroin for almost a year. He claimed the last time he used heroin was about three weeks before, at the Rashidiya metro station. — mary@khaleejtimes.com
