The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court heard the case of five men and a woman accused of robbing and murdering a prostitute.
The Asian suspects were in debt and wanted immediate cash, Emarat Al Youm reported. The Asian victim worked as a prostitute and shared a room with the woman. They planned to rob the prostitute to meet their financial needs.
The roommate opened the door for the five men and guided them to the victim's room. She planned the robbery with one of the five men, who murdered the victim fearing they might get exposed.
The prosecution's investigation found a video of the victim showing signs of terror and panic in one of the defendant's phone. The phone also included a clip of the gang planning the murder.
The defendants confessed to beating up the victim and threatening to kill her when she began screaming for help. To stop her from alerting the neighbours, they placed a pillow on her face and suffocated her to death.
They confessed to stealing the victim's money, jewellery and a mobile phone.
The prosecution had pleaded the court to give a maximum penalty for the accusers in a previous hearing.
