Inspectors at the Jebel Ali customs station suspected the information stated in the shipment papers, which showed it contained a consignment of textiles.

Saeed Ahmed Al Tayer, Director of the Jebel Ali Customs Stations Department, said when the container was opened, 252,000 Tramadol pills, bags of ‘niswar’ (chewing tobacco) packets and traditional medicines were found. While Tramadol is a restricted drug, sale of chewing tobacco is banned in the UAE.

The customs seized the Tramadol pills and ‘niswar’ packs in coordination with the Dubai Police, who have launched a hunt for the owner of the goods.
