A 19-year-old student was charged at the Dubai Court of First Instance for allegedly raping a woman at gunpoint.
According to public prosecution records, the incident took place on February 3 when the Emirati student threatened the Kenyan woman with a gun and raped her under duress. A complaint was filed at Al Rashidiya police station.
The complainant, a 28-year-old tourist, said she came to the UAE to look for a job on December 9 last year.
"After 6.30pm on the incident day, I got in touch with a Cameroonian man who asked to meet me in the parking lot of a shopping centre in Al Nahda, Sharjah, saying he would pay for the taxi."
The African man left her with the defendant later. "When I asked the latter where he was driving me, he said to a remote location where my workplace is situated without telling me what would be the nature of the job," she told the prosecutor.
She recounted that he parked near a building under construction. "He made a phone call and two men in a car arrived. I could understand they were blaming him because I am old and could be his mother's age. They told him to let me go."
After the two men left, he turned to her and told her to have consensual sex with her. "He tore up my shirt and then threatened me with a small gun he took from under his seat. I got so scared when he injected himself with some substance," she recalled.
He moved to the back seat and raped her for about one hour. He told her later not to tell anybody about it.
On their way back, she called the Dubai police operation room twice. "After he was ordered to drop me at Al Rashidiya police station, he got so angry that he threw my phone from the window. He said he would do whatever he wanted and I could do nothing about it. I then pulled his head towards me and he almost lost control over the steering wheel. He pulled over later and pushed me outside. I fell with his phone with me," she told the investigator.
A police sergeant said the victim was spotted by police patrol officers walking on a street between Al Warqa and Mirdiff at 11.40pm. "She said she was raped by an Arab man after she went to meet an African man for a job. The defendant was later identified through a source."
The forensic report indicated that the defendant's DNA traces were found on the woman's body.
The woman's torn shirt and other clothes were seized as pieces of evidence.
During the call the woman made to the police, the defendant claimed she went willingly with him and an African man in Al Mamzar. He denied he raped her.
