Early the next morning, a female pedestrian was killed at about 2.30am after she was hit by a vehicle in the Discovery Gardens area. The woman died at the scene, Dubai Traffic Department deputy director Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui said.
A second accident took place at 6am on New Year’s Day, when a male motorcyclist collided with a car in the Naif area. The motorcyclist suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to Rashid Hospital but died later from his injuries.
An hour later a third fatal accident took place when a car collided with a Dubai Municipality car on Al Safa Road, after it did not leave enough space, police said. The car driver died on the spot.
Dubai Ambulance Centre director Khalifa Darai said that the centre received 542 calls about injuries and accidents in various parts of Dubai during New Year’s Eve. He said by and large, the celebrations went smoothly.
