The campaign covered 227 beauty centres in the Capital and the inspectors issued warnings to 21 for failure to comply with the public health codes.

“The municipal inspection teams covered the entire city of Abu Dhabi under the campaign that principally aimed at educating operators and staff of beauty salons on health practices [that] ought to be observed in their outlets, raising awareness of beauty salon customers on how to safeguard their health, and eliminating any violations of the health stipulations and standards in these centres,” said Khalifa Al Rumaithi, Director of Public Health at the municipality. Products of unknown origin, lacking English and Arabic labels or with false promotion of health benefits were confiscated.

Al Rumaithi urged patrons to report any violations they may come across at beauty centres or salons. “The municipality made it clear that it will not hesitate to take necessary measures against any party proved to have violated the applicable health stipulations inflicting damage to the health and safety of the community. Legal measures against the offender might be as tough as closing (down) the entity, abolishing the trade licence, prohibiting the practice of the activity, imposing hefty fines and confiscating any materials proved by lab tests to contain petroleum, chemical or harmful products,” he added.
