128.2kg of poppy seeds seized

Customs inspectors at the Abu Dhabi International Airport have foiled the smuggling of huge quantity of narcotic poppy seeds weighing 128.2 kg.

xThey suspected three passengers of a flight from India, and subjected to the inspection, 52 bags of poppy seeds, weighing 52kg were found with the first suspect. The second and third suspects were found out to carry 35.1kg and 41.1 kg of the same drug respectively. All the suspects are Indians.

Hamad A Hurr Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Department of Finance, praised the vigil of the customs personnel at the airport to foil all attempts to smuggle drugs and banned materials.

Ahmed Saeed Al Mohairi, Director-General of Customs, also lauded the efforts of customs personnel in keeping the danger at bay.
