USA, handed a wildcard along with hosts the United Arab Emirates, made use of that opportunity by shocking Scotland by six wickets to improve their chances of qualifying for the T20 World Cup to be held in the West Indies this year.

Batting first, Scotland, who were coming off a win over Kenya in the ICC Interncontinental Cup, made 120 for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs with the experienced Gavin Hamilton top scoring with 41 from 53 balls with three boundaries. Jan Stander stroked a quickfire 19 from eight balls with a boundary and a six.

Kevin Darlington took two wickets for 19 in his four overs.

In reply, USA were guided by wicketkeeper and opening batsman Carl Wright who made an entertaining 62 from 57 balls, which was studded with eight boundaries. Lennox Cush, who was part of the Stanford squad that defeated England, scored 41 from 39 balls with three boundaries and a six as USA got home with five balls to spare.

Ryan Watson took two wickets for 10 runs in his two overs.
