Chasing 230 to win, Australia had plenty of contributors but no one who could go on to make the big score needed to win the game as they were dismissed for 211 in 48.3 overs.

Four batsmen passed 20, but no one raised the bat as the West Indies were able to break partnerships.

Earlier, Australia had bowled well to restrict West Indies to 8-229 with Corey McMahon on fire early when he was on a hat-trick and West Indies were in trouble at 3-19. Some solid partnerships followed, including a starring 98 not out from Kyle Mayers, that helped get the Windies back on track.

Coach David Fitzgerald said it was obviously disappointing to fall just short, but they had learnt a lot from the three one-dayers and the group was already looking forward to the three-day encounter.

“We’ve certainly learned a lot from the last three days and although we didn’t get the win today, we are certainly looking forward to taking this experience into the three-day game starting on Sunday,” Fitzgerald said.
