The ECB chief, who has been at the forefront for cricket in the UAE, confirmed to the Khaleej Times that Sharjah was indeed on the radar and said that a PCB team will arrive on Saturday to hold meetings at the two venues—Abu Dhabi and Dubai—and also inspect the Sharjah Stadium. “The teams will arrive on October 15. The tour will have three Tests, five One Day Internationals and one Twenty20 International. As of now, Abu Dhabi and Dubai are the two venues. The PCB will be inspecting Sharjah. The ICC too will be inspecting the venue. Based on their approval, we will give Sharjah a Test match,” Mani exclusively told the Khaleej Times.

Mani said that it would be great for the UAE to have one more venue. “We have made a request to the PCB and the PCB will also have to talk to Sri Lanka. The ground also needs to be reaccredited by the ICC. If everyone agrees, they will get a Test match. It is great because we will have one more venue,” he said.

About the proposed schedule, Mani said: “As of now, with Sharjah is not yet in the picture, Abu Dhabi will hosts two Tests, while Dubai will host the other. Dubai will host three One Day Internationals, while Abu Dhabi will host two One Day Internationals and the Twenty20 International.”

Mani said that a PCB team will hold a meeting in Abu Dhabi and will also hold a joint meeting in Dubai.

“A PCB team will arrive on Saturday and we will hold a meeting with them on July 25. Then, on July 28, we will hold a joint meeting in Dubai. Sharjah has a great ground and we would love to have a game there,” said Mani.

The Sharjah Stadium has not hosted a game since 2003. It has hosted the highest number of One Day Internationals. It has also hosted Pakistan’s ‘home’ series against Australia and West Indies in 2002. The UAE will also host Pakistan’s ‘home’ series against England in January next year.

“The ECB has sent us a preliminary agenda. The England squad will arrive on January 7. They will have a three-day warm-up game against probably the ECB Blues. The tour will comprise of three Tests, four One Day Internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals,” Mani said.

International teams have been reluctant to play in Pakistan after the attack on the Sri Lankan team. The present security situation have kept all teams away from touring the country and Pakistan have had to play their home series at neutral venues like Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the UAE.

The UAE has previously hosted Pakistan’s series against South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and the West Indies.
