Raza takes five as UBL inch closer

ABU DHABI — United Bank Limited inched closer to making the cut for the knockout stage with by defeating Adgas in the UBL Twenty20 Cricket Tournament at the Zayed Stadium.

United Bank Limited scored a seven-wicket win to notch their third win and top Group B.

UAE internationals Ahmed Raza and Amjad Ali were the heroes for United Bank Limited. Raza returned with a five for 14 from his four overs as Adgas were shot out for 116. Then, Ali clubbed an unbeaten 54 from 33 balls to take them home with nearly eight overs to spare.

The only resistance from Adgas came from opener Mudassar Ijaz, who scored 60 from 49 balls. He hit seven fours and a six in his knock. He was seventh out, becoming Salman Farooq’s first of the three victims, who did the mopping up to finish with three for 28 from 3.2 overs.

In another match, New Medical Centre defeated Al Fara’a by seven wickets to join Royal Gymkhana with two wins in Group A.

Al Fara’a were shot out for 116 with Atif Ijaz taking three for 25. Saqib Ali and Mohammed Kashif took two wickets each. Farhan Adil top scored for Al Fara’a with 43.

New Medical Centre knocked off the runs in 16.1 overs with Asim Ijaz scoring an unbeaten 41. He hit five boundaries and was also involved in a unbroken 48-run stand for the fourth wicket with Ihsan Ali (19 n.o). Indika Sampath scored 25.

Brief scores: United Bank Limited bt Adgas by 7 wickets. Adgas 116 all out in 18.2 overs (Mudasser Ijaz 60, Ahmed Raza 5-14, Salman Farooq 3-26). UBL 117 for 3 in 12.1 overs (Amjad Ali 54 not out).

New Medical Centre bt Al Fara’a by 7 wickets. Al Fara’a 116 all out in 18.5 overs(Farhan Adil 43, Atif Ijaz 3-25, Saqib Ali 2-14, Mohammed Kashif 2-33). NMC 117 for 3 in 16.1 overs (Asim Ijaz 41 not out, Indika Sampath 25).
