PCB spokesman Nadeem Sarwar says Hameed has been banned from playing in the ongoing domestic first class Pentangular Cup and the Twenty20 tournament to be played after the World Cup. He was also fined 300,000 rupees ($3,500).

Last year, Hameed was filmed during the test series against England by a man who posed as a potential sponsor. Hameed started answering questions not knowing he was recorded on a hidden a camera, and said some of his teammates often tried to lose matches.

This month Hameed lodged a complaint with the UK Press Complaints Commission against The News of the World for inaccurate reporting, misrepresentation of character, privacy and harassment.
