Moaaz Qazi’s Century Puts Cambridge School in Semifinals

ABU DHABI - Moaaz Qazi scored a superb century to lead Cambridge High School to the semifinals of the Under-14 Lifebuoy inaugural Abu Dhabi inter-school cricket tournament with victory over Our Own English High School at the Zayed Academy on Friday.

Cambridge needed score over 240 runs and win their final group A match to qualify ahead of Abu Dhabi Indian School on a better aggregate. And they made 269 for five and restricted Our Own to 234 for six to win by 34 runs.

Qazi stroked 119 and shared a 162-run opening stand in 17 overs with Bilal Passela (50) to lay the foundation, but it was a cavalier 51 not out from Vyshakh Sanjeev that propelled their total past the required score.

Our Own made a strong reply with the openers Anirudh Ravichandran (98) and Sarat Nanda (81) putting on 192 in 19 overs.

The spinner Passela gave Cambridge the vital breakthrough by bowling Nanda and Salman Zulfiqar held on to a skier to dismiss the captain Ravichandran off medium pacer Shaheer Jazil 10 runs later for Cambridge to take control of the game.

Our Own 234 for 6 in 25 overs (Anirudh Ravichandran 98, Sarat Nanda 81, Aakarsh Satyanarayan 2-40, Bilal Passela 2-41, Shaheer Jazil 2-44).

Abu Dhabi Indian School bt Indian Islahi Islamic School by 146 runs. Abu Dhabi Indian 200 all out in 22.1 overs (Mohammed Shahnawaz 20, Mohammed Israfil 30, Rohan Nanda 35, Farhan Ahmed 44, Mohammed Izzuddin 4-44, Fayad Aboobacker 2-21). Indian Islahi 51 all out in 13.3 overs (Sanjay Gehi 3-4, Farhan Ahmed 2-2, Elton D’Souza 3-16).
