The Mumbai team proved too strong for Maxtalent boys on day one as the Dubai side were bowled out for 76 in their first innings. Only opener Omer Mohammed stood out with a fine 49 from 61 balls.

Omer smashed five fours and three sixes in his entertaining knock. Yash Shodan chipped in with 12 from 22 balls, while the rest of the batsmen failed to reach double figures.

Vijay Gohal and Dhrumil Matkar did the damage as MIG spinners turned the match decisively in their team’s favour with some intelligent bowling. Gohal bagged four wickets from his 8.5 overs, including two maidens, while giving away 22 runs.

Matkar was equally impressive as the right-arm spinner took three wickets from just five overs. He later chipped in with an attacking 43 from 32 balls to boost the MIG score. Suraj Singh was at his attacking best in the Mumbai side’s reply. The dashing batsman smashed 159 from 137 balls, including 27 fours and two sixes, and helped MIG to declare their innings at 330 for six, leaving Maxtalent a mammoth task to avoid an inning’s defeat. Eventually Dubai’s Zafardeen Zafri took his wicket. Shodan was impressive with the ball, taking three for 67.

The Dubai players also got a chance to interact with the 64-year-old former Mumbai wicket-keeper Sharad Hazare, the MIG coach who played for Mumbai from 1967 to 1976, before the start of the second day’s play on Monday. “The players get a good chance to test their skills against one of the top teams in Mumbai. It is a good learning experience for the youngsters. Moreover the chance to meet former players like Hazare will help the players to get new insight in the game,” Maxtalent head coach Sudhakar Shetty told Khaleej Times.

The team is also scheduled to play friendly matches against PJ Hindu Gymkhana and New Hind Club before their return to Dubai on Christmas day.
