Franklin takes New Zealand to 315-7
James Franklin slammed a career-best 98 not out off just 69 balls as New Zealand piled on 315-7 in the fourth one-day international against India on Tuesday.
The left-hander hit 12 fours and three sixes to underline a spirited batting display by the visitors, fighting for pride in the five-match series with India having taken a decisive 3-0 lead on Saturday.
Scott Styris (46), Ross Taylor (44) and Brendon McCullum (42) chipped in with valuable knocks after India captain Gautam Gambhir won the toss and elected to field at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
The fifth and final match will be played in Chennai on Friday.
New Zealand enjoyed a brisk start to their innings before left-arm paceman Ashish Nehra picked up two wickets in successive overs to peg back the Black Caps.
Nehra had Martin Guptill (30) caught by a diving Yuvraj Singh in the covers while Jamie How offered a regulation catch to Yusuf Pathan (3-49) at first slip.
India struck again two overs later when off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin (2-66) dismissed McCullum for a run-a-ball 42 that included eight fours and a six.
Taylor (44) then joined forces with Styris and added 79 runs for the fourth wicket to lift the visitors from a shaky 91-3.
Franklin, who had top-scored with 72 in the third match in Vadodara, provided the late impetus, helping New Zealand add 63 runs in the last five overs.
He hit two sixes and as many fours in the last over by Nehra to take the visitors past the 300-run mark.
