Former Pakistan all-rounder Wasim Akram, who is also the brand ambassador of Dubai Super Sixes, will attend the inaugural function on Friday.

With only five overs and six players to be played, the format offers unlimited scope for entertainment for the weekend crowd.

A total of 48 corporate teams are contesting in the October 1-15 tournament.

In the opening match, scheduled to be held at 3.30pm, Emirates Islamic Bank will face Dubai Islamic Bank. A total of 14 matches are slated to held this weekend. Besides, the presence of former internationals Moin Khan, Romesh Kaluwitharana, Vinod Kambli, Venkatesh Prasad, Aravinda de Silva, Rohan Gavaskar and Lance Klusener during the later part of the tournament are expected to add firepower to the high-profile event.

The star attractions from India, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka are aptly named as the Landmark Group Team of Legends.

The tournament, organised by Crayons Communications and supported by Dubai Sports City and Gulf Oil, with the Landmark Group as the associate sponsor, is played under the auspices of Dubai International Cricket Council.

“As per the rules, each participating team should comprise six players, along with two substitutes, and with the opportunity to choose five neutral fielders from a large pool of players,” the organisers said.

Playing under the supervision of neutral umpires, the format requires each side to play a limited five overs, which they have to complete in 30 minutes.

The eight teams that reach the semifinal stage will each be assigned a top cricket player, who will play alongside them or serve as a mentor / coach.

Other sponsors of the event are Khaleej Times, City 101.6 FM, Star Plus, Star One, Kingfisher Airlines, Dubai Sports City, Media Rotana and Edward Steven & Associates.
