Broad fined over offensive remarks

England bowler Stuart Broad has been fined 50 per cent for of his match fee for making “unacceptable and offensive remarks” to an umpire as he left the field in the team’s second, one day international against Sri Lanka.

The charge related to an incident in the final over of the Sri Lanka innings Friday when Broad appealed for an lbw, which was turned down. As he left the field, Broad made his remarks to on-field umpire Billy Bowden about that decision. He later acknowledged the offense and accepted the proposed punishment.

Match referee Alan Hurst called Broad’s behavior “unacceptable in any form of cricket,” adding that the captain of England’s Twenty20 International team “must take responsibility for what he says and does.”
