Amre impressed by UAE youngsters

DUBAI — Development of cricket has always been an important issue in the UAE and Praveen Amre felt that it was going on the right track. “There is a lot of cricketing culture here. It’s good to see that lot of youngsters are showing interest in this sport. That itself is a positive sign.”

“The advantage is at this age you can mould them. Now coaches have an important role to play to take the youngsters to the next level. Giving them proper training and coaching can make them better cricketers,” Amre added.

He felt that proper infrastructure plays an important role in getting the best cricket team. “Mumbai is a fine example. The reason Mumbai is a great team is because they have a proper infrastructure in place. Any country to have a good cricket base must have the much needed infrastructure and facilities.”

“UAE has the infrastructure. When I came here earlier, there were hardly any grounds but now there are some top quality grounds and state-of-the-art infrastructure. It’s a gradual process and now with this infrastructure in place it will take a few years to get good players.”

“The most important thing is that lot of turf wickets have to come up. Since the highest level is played on that track, the youngsters have to get a feel of turf wickets when they are growing.”

Praising the boys at the G Force Cricket Academy, he said: “I’m happy to see that the young boys are enthusiastic to learn. It’s a different practice session unlike the regular net sessions. We make them play matches so that they learn how to prepare themselves for the matches.”
