Al Maksi bag cricket crown

DUBAI — Al Maksi beat Seven Seas Strikers to win the Al Wahda India Independence Day 7-A-Side Cricket Festival title last week in at the Seven Seas ground, said a press release.

Batting first, Seven Seas made 57 for 2 in 5 overs, Kashif (24 not out) and Husnain (13) being among the runs. Shahzad took 2 for 7.

In reply, Tariq remained not out on 29 to guide Al Maksi home as they made 60 for 3 in 4.4 overs.

Shahzad scored 15 after Qadir (2/8) and Farhan (1/9) had tried to check the scoring.

In the first semi-final Anchor Marine (Seven Seas Group) lost to Al Maksi by 40 runs. Batting first, Al Maksi made 81 for 3 in 5 overs with Shahzad (60) and Umer (27) being the top contributors. Farhan took 2 for 10.

Anchor Marine were all out for 41 in 4.4 overs as Shahzad (2/13) and Umer (2/2) and Nasir (1/7) were among the wickets.

In the second semis, Seven Seas defeated Telecherry by 41 runs. Seven Seas batting first made 84 for 3 in 5 overs, Asif (46) and Qadir (20) getting useful runs.

Telecherry were bundled out for 43 in 5 overs with Asif (2/6), Husnain (1/7) and Qadir (1/6) bowling well.

The seven-a-side cricket festival, organised by UAE umpire Tariq Butt and supported by Freddy Sidhwa of Seven Seas under the auspices of the Dubai Cricket Council, featured six leading B division team with prizes sponsored by Deepak Arora of Al Wahda Contracting for the eighth successive year.

Arora said that he would continue to support new cricket events in the near future.

Prizes: Man-of-the-match (final): Tariq of Al Maksi. Best batsman: Asif of Seven Seas. Best bowler: Qadir of Seven Seas. Man-of-the-tournament: Shahzad of Al Maksi.
