Abu Dhabi Gymkhana stunned

ABU DHABI — Opener Rizwan Amanat cracked a quickfire half-century as Perth Salt Valley stunned heavyweights William Hare Abu Dhabi Gymkhana by six wickets in the UBL Twenty20 Trophy cricket tournament.

It was their fourth win in four games and they topped Group D and qualified for the knockout stage.

Batting first, William Hare Abu Dhabi Gymkhana made 150 for the loss of nine wickets in their 20 overs. Asim Khurshid scored 34, while Owais Aftab too made 34. Umar Shah picked up two for 19, while Naveed Khan took two for 30.

In reply, opener Rizwan Amanat laid the foundation with a quickfire 58 from just 29 balls with 11 boundaries before Naveed Khan and Shahram Butt put on an unbroken 54 for the fifth wicket to guide Perth Salt Valley home.

Naveed Khan scored an unbeaten 23, while Shahram Butt made an unbeaten 28.

Abu Dhabi Gymkhana will have a battle in hand against Abu Dhabi Airport Technology to qualify as the second team from the Group D.

In another game, Etihad Airways scored their first win in four games by defeating Darwish bin Ahmed. Batting first, Etihad Airways scored 139 for the loss of two wickets in their 20 overs with B Sreekanth top scoring with an unbeaten 48. Arshad Khan made 40.

In reply, Darwish bin Ahmed were shot out for 94 in 19.5 overs. Jawad Qazi took two for 11, while Carl Lewis picked up two for 19. Sarmad Ali took two for 24.

Phoenix Medicine too picked up their first points by beating Seven Seas Strikers by two runs in a Group C game. Phoenix Medicine were all out for 117 in 20 overs. Qadir Nawaz took four for 15, while Farhan Ahmed picked up two for 17.

In reply, Seven Seas Strikers were restricted to 115 for nine in their 20 overs. Tariq Shah picked up three for 12, while Riaz Khaliq took two for 18.
