A total of 16 ‘B’ division teams will take part in the tourney to be held under the auspices of Dubai Cricket Council.
After successfully conducting a Twenty20 tournament last year, Gopal Jasapara, organiser of the tournament, is looking forward to a fruitful campaign thistime as well.
“A total of three matches are slated to be held every week up to December,” Jasapara, himself a good cricketer, told Khaleej Times while unveiling the draw at the India Club here on Tuesday evening.
Explaining the features of his tourney, Jasapara said: “Our first Twenty20 tournament saw some exciting matches with Yogi Group winning the title in an exciting final. Thistime, we have 16 B division teams.”
Dubai Cricket Council’s Mohammed Lokhandwala offered the council’s support for the event. “The tournament is open for all registered council players andteams. The tournament will be played on a league-cum knockout basis. The council umpires will officiate the matches. The tournament will be played as perthe DCC-approved rules and regulations.”
All the participating teams should be registered with a regional council, the organisers said.
“The winner will get a trophy and a gift voucher worth Dh5,000 from Jasapara Sports, while the runner-up will bag a trophy and voucher worth Dh3,000,” Jasapara said.
“There will be individual awards and gift vouchers for man of the series, best bowler, best batsman and man of the match. Besides, the best disciplined team,promising team and upcoming team would be get wards as well,” he added.
Meanwhile, trophies for the first G Force tournament were distributed during the function. Yogi Group collected the winner’s trophy while Seven Seas Strikersbagged the runners-up title. The best batsman award went to Swapnil Patil.
Yogi Group’s Mohammed Ajmal was chosen as the best bowler, while Seven Seas’ JavedButt received the Player of the Tournament prize. Butt’ 197 runs (68 balls 20 sixes, 12 fours) in one match helped him fetch the coveted award.
“We look forward to see such attractive and attacking cricket in this tournament. In one of the matches last year, Natural Stones smashed 303 runs in 20overs,” Jasapara said.
All the matches are expected to start at 8pm and end at 11pm, the organisers added.
Besides Jasapara Sports as the main sponsors, the support sponsors of the tournament are Wings XI and SGK International School.
