Jetro Dubai launches ME-IPG

Dubai: Jetro Dubai has launched the Middle East Intellectual Property Group (ME-IPG) to strengthen the network of Japanese companies among the government and private sectors in the fight against counterfeiting.
Delegates from the Dubai Police, Dubai Customs, Department of Economic Development, Emirates Intellectual Property Association (EIPA), Consulate General of Japan and United States, as well as law firms, private groups, and Japanese companies recently gathered to discuss and explain how each group should work in order to fight counterfeiting in the Middle East.
The kick off meeting started with the opening remarks delivered by the director general of IP Innovation Department of Jetro headquarters, Toshihiro Mitsuhasi; followed by Hisashi Michigami, consul general of Japan in Dubai, Lt. Col. Salah Juma Bu Osaibah, director of Anti-Economic Crimes Department of Dubai Police; Narmin Ahmad Issa, director of Legal Affairs Department of Dubai Customs and Ibrahim Ahmad Behzad, director of IPR Protection Department of Dubai DED.
Abdelrahman Almuaini, secretary general of Emirates Intellectual Property Association, discussed the new initiative to fight IP crime in the Middle East.
