More than 2,000 senior citizens, people of determination and their families have so far taken the Covid-19 jab through Sharjah’s home vaccination service, the authorities said on Thursday.
The initiative is being run by the Sharjah Social Service Department as part of its community campaign to reach out to vulnerable groups who need the vaccine the most.
Out of 2,545 jab takers, 2,291 have received the first dose of the vaccine while 254 have completed the two doses.
Kholoud Al Ali, director of the department's elderly services centre, aims to get the vaccines administered to as many as 100 families every day through home visits.
Eighteen teams — from the Elderly Services Centres in Sharjah, Khor Fakkan, Dibba Al Hisn, Kalba, Al Hamriya, Al Dhaid, Al Madam, Al Bataih and Maliha — are all working together to achieve the target.
Supported by primary healthcare centres in the emirate, members of the medical team were all equipped with proper training in administering the vaccine.
This home vaccination initiative will continue as part of the nationwide campaign Together We Recover, Al Ali said. Those who would like to book the service for seniors and people of determination may call the toll-free number 800700.
