Taking a flu shot is now more crucial than ever amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Abu Dhabi’s education regulator has told parents.
The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (Adek) urged parents to take their children for the flu jab to protect their health and ensure continuity of education during the influenza season.
Various healthcare centres in the emirate are providing the flu vaccine free of charge.
In cooperation with the Department of Health-Abu Dhabi, the Adek has launched a campaign to vaccinate students and their families against the seasonal influenza virus.
“While efforts are concerted in the community to limit the spread of Covid- 19, protecting the health of students and the school community remains our top priority, especially during the seasonal influenza outbreak,” said Adek.
“Vaccination is the best way to prevent seasonal flu. It is good for students, parents and teachers to get the flu jab for the safety of the school community,” added the authority.
Parents have also been advised to keep sick children home to avoid infecting others at school and to seek medical help.
How to prevent flu:
> Cover the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing
> Regular hand washing with water and soap, and sanitation
> Frequent cleaning and disinfecting of surfaces and objects
> Limit contact with those who are infected
