The 2020 ITU World Triathlon Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Paratriathlon World Cup and the Abu Dhabi Mixed Relay Event have been cancelled as a precautionary measure against coronavirus, in a joint decision by the International Triathlon Union and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
Initially due to take place on Yas Island from March 5-7, 2020, ITU and local organizing committees are now looking to postpone the event to later in March or April.
Travel restrictions and quarantines imposed by some countries and airlines for individuals and groups travelling from or to areas affected by the outbreak made it impossible to go ahead with the event in the planned dates.

Around 300 elite athletes and more than 2500 age group athletes and scholars were planned to participate in the WTS Abu Dhabi events next week. They will be immediately informed of the postponement, and will be advised of the new dates as soon as agreed.
The move comes a day after the Abu Dhabi Sports Council cancelled the remaining rounds of the 2020 UAE Tour after two Italian support staff tested positive for coronavirus, causing 2 luxury hotels in the Capital to be quarantined.
