Kerala's Health Minister K K Shailaja has received the prestigious honour of adorning the cover of the November edition of Vogue India, the renowned fashion and lifestyle magazine.
Vogue has paid the ultimate tribute to K K Shailaja 'Teacher', who hit the headlines for her work in response to the coronavirus pandemic, by featuring her on their list of 'Women of 2020'.
Vogue praised the staunch efforts of the Kerala Health, Social Justice and Woman and Child Development Minister for her swift action along with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and said their combine efforts had brought down cases in Kerala to almost zero at one time.
After dealing with the outbreak of the Nipah virus in 2018, Shailaja's swift and forward-thinking action to combat Covid-19 earned her the title ‘The Coronavirus Slayer’.
In June, the United Nations had commended Shailaja for Kerala's effective management of the pandemic.
Fast forward to November, and Vogue says she is one of the few female leaders worldwide who has dealt with the pandemic.
Shailaja's laudable stance, which is "more than fear" and all about the "enthusiasm to get involved", Vogue has even changed its Twitter display picture to Shailaja featuring on their cover page.
"There's no time to be scared. More than fear, I feel the enthusiasm to get involved," Shailaja said.
