Shopping malls across Abu Dhabi are being disinfected deploying a specialised team of engineers, technicians, trainers and qualified cleaning staff, the Abu Dhabi Waste Management Center (Tadweer) has announced.
The drive, which began on Saturday, will cover 31 shopping centres in the emirate and is carried out in collaboration with the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT).
"The shopping centre disinfection drive is an important part of the National Disinfection Programme. We are closely collaborating with all relevant authorities to protect the health and safety of residents in Abu Dhabi, while effectively preventing the spread of the pandemic," said Dr Salem Al Kaabi, director-general of Tadweer.

The authority has deployed 175 machines and equipment to disinfect the premises, which include spraying and sterilising indoor and outdoor areas of the malls. The disinfection drive targets the most crowded facilities, assets, and areas frequented by the public in shopping centres - entrances, shopping carts and baskets, payment counters, seating areas, parking lots, waste bins, donation boxes, floors, open spaces, corridors, elevators, stairs, prayer rooms, and playing areas, among others.
"To achieve optimal results and ensure successful containment of the virus, Tadweer operates according to a fool-proof action plan. Our specialised team is carrying out the disinfection operation in line with the highest health, safety and environmental standards, using safe and effective disinfectants and antivirus products approved by relevant authorities, and following latest international best practices in this regard," he added
