The UAE has intensified its Covid-19 precautionary measures following a spike in cases recently. The most important safety measure to follow is to wear a mask whenever one is outdoors or interacting with people outside one's bubble.

The authorities have time and again reminded people of the importance of masks and have even introduced fines for violating safety rules. Residents found not wearing masks outdoors will be fined Dh3,000 in the UAE, officials warned.

But, there are very few exemptions. According to officials, it’s not necessary to wear a mask when you are driving a vehicle alone and there are no passengers or you are travelling with immediate family members. However, if you are using a public transport vehicle or travelling with others in a private vehicle, you must wear a mask for your safety and those of others.

Masks are not required to be worn when eating in a restaurant, the officer said, adding that those who are doing exercises or having facial treatments done will also be exempt from wearing masks.
