Covid vaccine UAE: Dubai's Sheikh Mansoor gets Pfizer jab

Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management, has received the first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine.

The vaccine is being administered for free to Dubai residents.

Sheikh Mansoor — who is the son of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoun, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai — took to Twitter to post a photo of him receiving the jab on Wednesday. He thanked the health authorities and leaders in the country.

"Thank you @DHA_Dubai for leading the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccination campaign, and thank you once again to our first line of defence heroes who continue to work with full dedication & sincerity. The UAE has and will always prioritise the health, safety & security of its community," he tweeted.

Dubai is planning to inoculate 70 per cent of its population with the Covid-19 vaccine produced by Pfizer and BioNTech by the end of 2021.

"We want to reach the herd immunity that is required,” Farida Al Khaja, chairwoman of Dubai’s steering committee for Covid-19 vaccinations, told Reuters recently.
