The band, recently voted Dubai’s favourite band by 76.3 per cent of those polled in a Time Out magazine, have all grown up in Abu Dubai and this year released Cause and Affect , their first album.
Fab Sioul, A&R of Spellbind Records (their record label based in Dubai ), confided ‘they are preparing a special performance to be remembered as a successful Justin Timberlake’s opening act. Besides, they all come from the Middle East and have grown up in Abu Dhabi , where they reside. Sol, the keyboardist, is a local’.
Formed in 2000 with vocalist and songwriter Dia, bass guitarist Sari, keyboarding and songwriter Sol, drummer Abdul and last but not least, guitarist Ray, ‘Julie Down’ was proposed as a name inspired by a Grateful Dead song (Row Jimmy). Not well received initially, the name ‘Julie’ was expanded upon and ‘Juliana Down’ was born.
Dia admits ‘we feel blessed and we are going to enjoy every second of it. We have performed in front of big crowds before, including the Dubai Desert Rock Festival, but this is a new experience that we are so excited about. We will give our best during this performance, being held in our hometown and also knowing the likes of Good Charlotte, Fergie, Pink, Natasha Bedingfield, and more have also served as the opening acts for Justin around the world.’
The song “Let Me be Your Pain” has been re-edited and will be soon introduced on radio stations, after rolling from No. 256 all the way up to No. 2 of the Soundclick.com Indie Charts on their way back from their summer tour in Europe.
They’ve recently topped the charts of soundclick.com (an international online music industry stalwart) with their single “Taste and Burn” where they had over 18,000 listens in one day and have had several songs featured as “tracks of the day” on garageband.com.
