Annual lights-out event Earth Hour 2011 will see landmarks in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah show their commitment to tackling environmental concerns.
The Emirates Wildlife Society, in collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund, is calling on UAE residents to get involved this Saturday. Between 8.30pm and 9.30pm (UAE time), people across the world will dim their lights in a call for action on climate change.
At the Abu Dhabi Corniche, there will be an Earth Hour lantern walk from 6.45pm. Participants can bring a recycled lantern and candle, and exchange old incandescent light bulbs for a new energy saving bulb. The event will also include environmental awareness activities and musical performances.
In Dubai, head to Festival City Marina for a candlelight gathering or to the lantern march at the Burj Khalifa, while in Sharjah all non-essential lights in Al Qasba will be switched off.
